Rachmil Pinchus Ben Mosha Cohon Wiki Biography

Robert Peter Cohon was born on 10 October 1941, in New York City, USA of Jewish descent. Peter is an actor, narrator, director, and screenwriter, best known for his numerous narrating works. He’s served as the host of the Oscar telecasts, and narrated various shows which led to several awards. All of his efforts have helped put his net worth to where it is today.

How rich is Peter Coyote? As of late-2016, sources inform us of a net worth that is at $10 million, mostly earned through the numerous narrations he’s completed throughout his career. He’s won several Emmy Awards, for works such as “The Roosevelts”. All of these achievements have ensured the position of his wealth.

Peter Coyote Net Worth $10 million

Coyote attended Dwight Morrow High School and matriculated in 1960. He then attended Grinnel College and would graduate with a degree in English literature four years later. After graduating, he was accepted at the Iowa Writers’ Workshop but instead moved to San Francisco State University to study for a master’s degree in creative writing. He would later change his last name to Coyote based on a previous hallucinatory experience in which he envisioned his footprints as coyote paw prints.

Peter would have an apprenticeship at the San Francisco Actors’ Workshop, and would later join the San Francisco Mime Troupe. He would direct, write, and also participate in the troupe’s performances, travelling to several cities, although some of their scheduled performances were cancelled because they didn’t have the proper permits. In 1967, he would become a part of the counterculture community which focused on theater work specifically intended to be provocative; they worked for free during most of their performances. In the early 1970s, he then found work at the San Francisco Arts Commission, where he was hired as an artist, and would eventually become a member of the California Arts Council. He would serve there as a chairman until 1983 and would help the Council’s budget increase considerably, and his net worth to grow..

Afterwards, he decided to pursue an acting career, and would appear in several productions. In 1980, he made his film debut in “Die Laughing” and this was mostly followed up by supporting roles. He was a part of “E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial” in 1982 and was even considered for the role of Indiana Jones, but his first starring role came in the same year with “Timerider: The Adventure of Lyle Swann”. In the next few years he would continue in “Jagged Edge” and “Outrageous Fortune”. In 1990, he made a guest appearance in “Road to Avoniea” which got him his first Primetime Emmy Award nomination.

Over the next few years, Coyote continued to act in various films such as “A Walk to Remember” and “Erin Brokovich”. He also did a lot of commercial voice overs, and television movies. In 2004, he was cast to be a part of “The 4400”, and the following year was a part of “The Inside”. His talent as a voice actor was also starting to be recognized which improved his net worth dramatically. Some of the projects he’s narrated include “Guns, Germs, and Steel” and “Lost”.

Peter also writes, which has helped him raise his net worth further. He has articles in Mother Jones Magazine and also wrote for Counterpoint Press, mainly to support counter-culture. In 2015, he published his memoir entitled “The Rainman’s Third Cure: An Irregular Education”.

For his personal life, it is known that Peter was married to Eileen Ewing in 1965 and they had a son but divorced in 1972. He would marry Marilyn McCann three years later – that ended in divorce in 1998. He was subsequently married to Stephanie Pleet from 1998 to 2015. Coyote is a dedicated practitioner of Zen Buddhism.

1Dulcet voice (hence several narrative roles)
1[on lining in the 1960s] I lived on communes. I was involved with practically every kind of revolutionary movement of the period. My 'family' of people was called 'The Diggers.' We were a kind of 'out-there' tribe.
2[on Marin Ritt] Working with Martin Ritt was a real pleasure. Most often you run into directors who are technically proficient, but empty. They don't understand story or structure, and they don't understand when an actor has a problem, how to help him or her out of it. I knew all about Martin's reputation as a director. I knew about his films, and I also knew somewhere about his background in group theater. It's very liberating to work with a very knowledgeable director because you can take risks and go places without worrying whether an inexperienced director will let it through.
3I'm a Zen-Buddhist student first, actor second. If I can't reconcile the two lives, I'll stop acting. I spend more time off-screen than on.
1Daughter, Ariel, with Eileen 'Sam' Ewing.
2He was paid just $28,000 for his role in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982), his fifth feature film role, and his eighth overall. But when the film passed $300,000,000 in international box office, director/producer Steven Spielberg sent him a "thank you" check for $10,000, which Coyote considered very generous.
3Friend of author/poet Gary Snyder since the late 1960s.
4He began using the last name of Coyote, for the animal, considered otherworldly by some Native Americans, after meeting a Paiute-Shoshone shaman in 1967.
5He has given both Rachmil Pinchus Ben Mosha Cohon and Robert Peter Cohon as his birthname in interviews.
6He has lived in the San Francisco Bay area and Marin County since just after his graduation from Grinnell College in 1964.
7He considers Susie Nelson, the family housekeeper, to be his mother, after his mother had a nervous breakdown when he was 2 1/2. As a result, he never had emotional intimacy with his genetic mother until he was age 34, after the death of his father.
8When he was 17 years old, Coyote was arrested with a friend for trying to transport eighteen pounds of marijuana across the Mexican border into Texas. He used his one phone call to call his father, who bailed him out. His father never spoke about the incident again.
9Has been friends with Terry Bisson since their time as Grinnell College students in the early 1960s.
10Has a younger sister.
11Ken Burns considers Coyote to be his "narrator muse," and Coyote never reads Burns' scripts in advance of performing the narrations.
12He worked with Jerry Hardin in Heartbreakers (1984). He later played DA Jerry Hardin in Law & Order: LA (2010).
13Is fluent in both Spanish and French.
14Is so far the only American actor to work with Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar. He starred in Kika (1993), throughout which he speaks Spanish, in which he is fluent.
15His father, Morris Cohon, was from a family of both Ashkenazi Jewish and Sephardi Jewish ancestry (from Russia, the Netherlands, Germany, France, and Tunisia). His mother, Ruth (Fidler), was a Jewish immigrant from the Russian Empire.
16In his book "Lila," author Robert Pirsig relates that Coyote was in his mind to star in an adaptation of, "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance." Coyote was a friend of Pirsig's son Chris.
17Given the actor's unusual second name, it's ironic that, prior to his acting career, he once plucked chickens for a living
18Graduated with a B.A in English Literature from Iowa's Grinnell College in 1964.
19Was a member of the radically political theatre performance group "The San Francisco Mime Troupe".
20He was one of the organizers of a group of 12 students who traveled to Washington, DC, during the Cuban missile crisis of the early 1960s supporting President John F. Kennedy's "peace race." President Kennedy invited the group into the White House (the first time protesters had ever been so recognized) and they met for several hours with Kennedy advisor McGeorge Bundy.
21Tested for the role of Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981).
22Before becoming an actor at the age of 39, he spent 15 years in the counterculture movement during the 1960s. He wrote a memoir of that time in his life, called "Sleeping Where I Fall," which was published in full in 1998. It has gone through five hardback printings and is in its second paperback edition. "Carla's Story", a chapter from the book which was released earlier, won the Pushcart Prize for Excellence in Non-Fiction in 1993/1994.
23Along with Glenn Close, he narrated the opening ceremonies of the XIX Olympic Winter Games (2002 Salt Lake City, Utah, USA).
24With Peter unseen (in voiceover narration, or television and radio commercials), his voice is strongly reminiscent of, and often favorably compared, to that of Henry Fonda.
