For a time Peter lived in Singapore, as his father worked for an advertising agency with headquarters in the Far Eastern country. They returned to England and eventually settled in Harrow-on-the-Hill, and Peter spent some time at the YMCA in Tottenham. He went to Roxeth and North Ealing Primary schools, and it was during this time that Peter started playing soccer, firstly joining the Northolt Hotspurs, then the Brentford Centre of Excellence in 1991, and became a part of the West Middlesex Colts, while being educated at Drayton Manor High School. He joined Queens Park Rangers in 1994, but in 1995 the whole coaching staff of QPR joined Tottenham Hotspur, taking some of their youth players too including Crouch.

He became a professional three years later, but never made a single appearance for Tottenham’s first squad, instead playing for Dulwich Hamlet, and IFK Hässleholm on loan, and on return to London, he was sold to QPR for just £60,000, which competed in the First Division at the time. Peter made 42 appearances and scored 10 goals, but it just wasn’t enough for the club to stay in the league, and it was relegated to the Second Division.

Because of finances, Peter was sold to Portsmouth for £1.5 million, remaining in the Second Division, and scoring 18 goals in 37 games, he attracted interest from Premier League teams, primarily Aston Villa, which bought him for £5 million. Unfortunately, Peter couldn’t make an impact in the big leagues, scoring only six goals in 37 games in three seasons for Villa, and as a result he was sent to the Norwich City, where he regained form, and helped the Canarys earn promotion to the Premier League. In 2004 he was sold to Southampton and this time proved his goal-scoring abilities, which earned him a transfer to Liverpool worth £7 million.

Unfortunately, Peter couldn’t score a goal for his new team until early December, when he finally ended his drought with a goal against Wigan Athletic. He finished the season with eight league goals, but helped his team win the FA Cup, defeating West Ham in the final. He was also one of those responsible for Liverpool winning the FA Community Shield, as he scored the winning goal against Chelsea. He improved his play in a 2006-2007 season, becoming Liverpool’s top goalscorer with 18 goals in all competitions, however, the next season was his last in Liverpool following the arrival of Fernando Torres and others who took Peter’s place in the first team.

Nevertheless, he quickly found a new club, returning to Portsmouth, but after only one season and another 11 goals, he was bought by Tottenham Hotspur for a fee of £10 million on a five-year deal. Unfortunately, his abilities went missing once again and in three seasons and 73 games he had only 12 goals.

He then joined Stoke City for which he still plays, and since making his debut for the team has scored 43 league goals.

In addition to his club career, Peter has also played for England’s national team, and since his debut in 2005, has wore the jersey 42 times and scored 22 goals.

Peter is also an author too, having released his autobiography in 2007 – “Walking Tall- My Story” – the sales of which also increased his net worth.

Regarding his personal life, Peter has been married to model Abbey Clancy since 2011; the couple has three children together.

In love with speed, Peter was caught speeding in 2011, and in 2012 his driving license was voided for six months.
