Philip Alfred Mickelson Wiki Biography

American professional golfer Phil Mickelson was born on 16 June 1970, in San Diego, California. An inductee into the World Golf Hall of Fame, Phil Mickelson is considered to be one of the all-time best golf players, as evidenced by his career achievement in winning over 40 tournaments on the PGA Tour, which include three Masters, a PGA Championship as well as a British Open Championship. In addition, for three consecutive years from 1990, Phil Mickelson was honored with the Haskin Award, which is presented to the outstanding collegiate golfer in the US each year.

So just how rich is Phil Mickelson, as of mid-2017? Authoritative sources estimate that Phil’s net worth is over $400 million, accumulated from his winnings on the golf course, and more from sponsorship and endorsement contracts, during a professional career which began in 1992. As examples, in 2013 Mickelson’s winnings from tournaments amounted to $4.7 million, while that same year he collected $44 million dollars from various endorsements, and in 2014, Phil’s earnings from golf were $5.2 million, plus $48 million from endorsements.

Philip Alfred Mickelson was inspired and taught by his father, and learned how to play golf by practicing in his backyard. Mickelson then enrolled at the University of San Diego High School, and later continued his studies at Arizona State University on a golf scholarship. While in college, Phil Mickelson proved to be an exceptional golf player, joining the “Sun Devils” team and leading them to compete in the National Championship. In addition to earning the Haskin Award in college, Phil also won his first PGA Tour event, the Northern Telecon Open in 1991, which few amateurs have been able to do, which this set him up for future career opportunities.

When he graduated from college Mickelson turned professional, and even in the early stages of his professional golfer’s career, established himself as an exceptional player. Phil continued to collect achievements in the PGA Tour events in the late 1990s, yet his first major win would come later, despite 22 tournament wins, and 17 top 10 finishes in majors. In 2004, Mickelson achieved his first major victory in the Masters Tournament, and a year later won the PGA Championship, followed by another Masters in 2006, and again in 2010. With these major victories, Phil Mickelson attracted the attention of the fans as well as the media, which soon resulted in him being invited to various popular events, as well as securing sponsorships. He finally won the British Open in 2013, the last to date.

Internationally, Phil has been a member of 11 US Ryder Cup teams – three wins – and 11 Presidents Cup teams for nine wins, as well as with the US winning World Cup team in 2002. He’s also been ranked in golf’s top 10 for more than 700 weeks.

Mickelson is now second in terms of prize money won from golf tournaments, but as noted previously, the bulk of his fortune comes from endorsements, including KPMG, Barclays, ExxonMobil, Rolex and Callaway Golf.

In his personal life, Phil Mickelson has been married to Amy McBride since 1996; they have two daughters and a son, and are now based in Sante Fe.
