Ralph Lauren was born in 1939 in New York, where he studied at the Marsha Stern Talmudical Academy. He continued his studies at the Dewitt Clinton High School, from which he graduated in 1957. He then enrolled in the Baruch College, yet he failed to graduate from it. Soon afterwards he joined the United States Army, in which he served from 1962 until 1964. He worked for a short period of time for the clothier chain known as “Brooks Brothers”, until he decided upon opening his own store. He launched his first necktie shop in 1967, and by 1970 received his first COTY Award. The popularity of Lauren’s clothing reached the media when he was asked to create clothing styles for characters of Jack Clayton’s 1974 romantic drama film called “The Great Gatsby”. Then in 1977 he received an opportunity to provide clothing for the main character in Woody Allen’s “Annie Hall” film. Since then, Ralph Lauren has opened 35 boutiques in the United States alone, in such cities as San Diego, New York, Atlanta, and Denver among others. For his contributions to the fashion industry, Lauren was rewarded with the James Smithson Bicentennial Medal, and received the title of Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur, which was bestowed on him by Nicolas Sarkozy.

In regards to his personal life, Ralph Lauren is married to Ricky Anne Loew-Beer. The couple met in 1964, and half a year later celebrated their wedding. Together, they have three children, namely Dylan Lauren, who now owns “Dylan’s Candy Bar” company, David Lauren, who works at “Polo Ralph Lauren”, and the actor Andrew Lauren.
