After finishing Miramonte High School in Orinda, his father’s wealth secured him schooling at Union College in New York, where he became a member of the Delta Upsilon fraternity and played for the college football team. After graduating with a BA in English and Theater Arts, he enrolled at the University of Southern California where he earned an MFA in producing from the Peter Stark Producing Program.
Before starting his independent career, Thurber assisted screenwriter John August with the TV series “D.C.” and was one of only three of his assistant screenwriters who made it big afterwards.
