Richard Dreyfuss Net Worth $55 Million

Richard grew up in Bayside, Queens, before the family moved to Los Angeles when he was nine years old. He went to Beverly Hills High School, where as a teenager, he acted in community plays. For a short time, Richard attended San Fernando Valley State College – now known as California State University, Norhridge – but he was expelled for continuously arguing with a teacher. He spent two years in an alternate term of service as a hospital clerk, for being an objector against the Vietnam War. After this, he found an agent and began starring in TV sitcoms and performing in plays on and off Broadway, a reasonable start to his net worth.

His first film role was in “The Valley of The Dolls”, and a single line in “The Graduate” in 1967. However, after appearing in “Dillinger” (1973), his breakthrough role came the same year in “American Graffiti”, with Richard’s performance earning him a Golden Globe nomination for best actor. As the years went by, his career progressed and Dreyfuss starred in a series of hit films during the ‘70s: He appeared in the Canadian comedy-drama film “The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz” (1974), and a year later Steven Spielberg cast him in one of the lead roles in “Jaws”, a 1975 American thriller. He was once again collaborating with Spielberg in 1977, when he played in “Close Encounters of the Third Kind”, and the same year, Dreyfuss made one of his most notable appearances as the lead role in “The Goodbye Girl”, and for this performance he won an Academy Award, a BAFTA Award and a Golden Globe Award for best actor. This significantly increased both the actor’s reputation and his net worth.

Following personal struggles involving drug addiction, Dreyfuss’ career was revived after a few years when in 1986 he made a comeback performance in the movie “Down and Out in Beverly Hills”, and continued to appear in a series of movies throughout the ‘80s, such as “Stakeout” (1987), “Nuts” (1987) and “Always” (1989) which brought him back on track. Richard was nominated for both an Academy Award and a Golden Globe in 1995, for his performance in the musical drama “Mr. Holland’s Opus”.

Shortly after, Dreyfuss turned to television. He produced and starred in the TV series “The Education of Max Bickford” which, however, was only aired for one season.

When it comes to actor’s recent engagements, it is worth mentioning that he played in Oliver Stone’s “W” (2008), a film about the life of George W. Bush, and has appeared in TV shows “Parenthood” (2011) and “Weeds” (2010).

Richard has a bipolar disorder, a matter he discussed in the “Stephen Fry: The Secret Life of the Manic Depressive” 2006 documentary. He has married three times; his first marriage was with actress Jeramie Rain(1983-95) with whom he has 3 children. His second marriage was to Janelle Lacy(1998-2005) and, and since 2006, Richard has been married to Svetlana Erokhin – the couple lives in San Diego, California.
