Talking about his political career, his first major project was the organization of Conservatives for Patients’ Rights, which opposed plans for health reform put forward by the administration of President Barack Obama; Scott gave $5 million of his personal wealth to co-finance a media campaign conducted by the organization. In 2010, he ran successfully for governor of Florida in the colors of the Republican Party, being victorious over his main rival state attorney general Bill McCollum. On the other hand, he faced Democrat Alex Sink, serving then the state government as Chief Financial Officer; Scott garnered 48.87% of the votes and Sink 47.72%.
