Roger Taylor Net Worth

Roger Taylor net worth is
$170 Million

Roger Taylor was born on the 26th July 1949, in King’s Lynn, Norfolk, England, and is a musician, singer, songwriter, and film producer, best known as the drummer of the legendary British rock band Queen from its formation in 1970. Taylor’s career started in 1968.

Have you ever wondered how rich Roger Taylor is, as of late 2016? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Taylor’s net worth is as high as $170 million, an amount earned through his successful career as a musician. In addition to being the drummer of one of the most influential rock bands in history, Taylor has also recorded five solo albums and been involved in other music projects which have improved his wealth.

Roger Taylor Net Worth $170 Million

Roger Taylor was a son of Winifred and Michael Taylor and grew up in Truro, Cornwall, south-west England, along with his younger sister Clare. When he was seven, Taylor and his friend formed the band called the Bubblingover Boys, with Taylor playing the ukulele. He went to Truro Cathedral School and then joined Truro School. Although initially he learned to play the guitar, Taylor decided to become a drummer because of the heavy influences of Keith Moon of The Who and Mitch Mitchell of The Jimi Hendrix Experience. In 1967, Roger went to London to study dentistry at the London Hospital Medical College but later changed it to Biology after became bored with dentistry.

In 1968, Taylor met Brian May and Tim Staffell, and the three of them formed the band called Smile, but Staffell left after only two years, leaving them with just nine recorded songs. Roger met Freddie Mercury while two of them worked at the Kensington Market, and as Mercury was an avid fan of Smile decided to form a new band with May, and called it Queen. They added the bassist John Deacon and released their first, self-titled album in 1973. The album reached the No. 24 on UK Albums Chart and No. 83 on US Billboard 200, with over a million copies sold worldwide. Taylor’s net worth was well established.

The band’s fourth studio album called “A Night at the Opera” (1974) achieved multiple platinum status in both th US and the UK, with over six million records sold, topping the UK Albums Chart and peaking at No. 4 on the US Billboard 200. The band members made millions thanks to the commercial success of the album, while Taylor’s net worth significantly improved as a result.

Queen was at its peak in the late ‘70s, with such successful albums as “A Day at the Races” (1976), which topped the UK Charts and reached the No. 5 on the US Billboard 200, and “News of the World” (1977), that peaked at No. 4 in the UK and at No. 3 on US charts. They also released “Jazz” in 1978, and it reached the No. 2 on UK and No. 6 on US charts. In 1980 Queen recorded their eighth and probably the most lucrative album entitled “The Game” that topped both UK and US charts (the band’s only album to achieve that success in the US).

They released seven more albums, but after the Freddie Mercury’s death in 1991, Queen stopped recording new material, but they are still playing together at concerts. Roger Taylor wasn’t only a drummer in the group, he also served as an occasional singer and wrote numerous songs including “Stone Cold Crazy”, “Under Pressure”, and “Radio Ga Ga”. Taylor also released five studio albums from 1981 to 2013, adding even more money to his wealth.

From 1987 to 1993, he was a frontman of the band called The Cross as rhythm guitarist and lead vocalist. Except for Germany, The Cross didn’t enjoy commercial success, and they disbanded after releasing three albums. Taylor has collaborated with many fellow musicians such as Phil Collins, Genesis, Eric Clapton, Robert Plant, Jimmy Nail, Roger Waters, Roger Daltrey, Elton John, Foo Fighters and Bon Jovi, among many others.

Regarding his personal life, Roger Taylor dated Dominique Beyrand from 1977 to 1988 when they married even though their relationship had broken down earlier. The reason for the convenience marriage was the future interests of their two children: Felix Luther and Rory Eleanor. He was then in a relationship with Debbie Leng and has three children with her. They separated in 2002, and Taylor married Sarina Potgieter in August 2010. He currently lives in Puttenham, Surrey, England.

#Quote
1I thought 'Under Pressure' was one of our better songs - although not one of our best recordings. I think if we had recorded it more beautifully it would have been greater than it turned out.
2[on punk rocker Sid Vicious] Sid was a moron, you know. He was an idiot.
3[on Phil Collins's retirement from drumming due to injury] I was very sorry to hear about Phil. It was terrible. I guess we are the same age. I get tinnitus occasionally, which I can deal with but I have to say you do take a little bit of a beating. The only thing I've got is that the ring fingers on both my hands have a little arthritis in each. It's a worn out joint because of too much exertion and stress. But it doesn't affect my playing, which is good.
4In the beginning synths were what we call monophonic, you could only play one note at a time. But then suddenly they started making these ones which you could play chords on and they became much more usable as musical instruments, tools and things. I bought one, took it into the studio and Fred said "This is good, give us a go on that!" We started using it quite a lot in our records and I guess we made some more what you'd call purely pop records in the Eighties, whereas in the Seventies we thought of ourselves as sort of being a hard rock band really.
5We never really thought of ourselves as a singles band, although I think a lot of people these days would probably describe us as a singles band.
6[on his 2013 solo album, Fun On Earth] I just hope people like it and I hope for the best. I did think at times, 'Why am I doing this?' But music is what we do. Nothing comes easy, but it is worth it.
7[on the Freddie Mercury movie] We need all the dominoes in place before the go button can be pressed. I don't want to be too close to the film, though - I just want to supervise the music with [Brian May]. Having a great script, direction and lead are the main things, and having put those things in place I don't want much more to do with it. But we did want to put those in place so everybody is happy. When you give the movie to the director though you've handed him a loaded gun, and I want to stay out of it!
8You can't defend anybody in the context of having Paul Daniels sitting next to you. What a dick. (On appearing on Good Morning Britain (1983) following the death of Freddie Mercury)
9[on David Bowie] Freddie and I saw the first Ziggy gig at Friar's Aylesbury. We drove down in my Mini. We loved it. I'd seen him there about three weeks before in the long hair and the dress. Suddenly you saw this spiky head coming on stage. You thought, wha-a-at??? They looked like spacemen.
10We had a joke that we wanted to be the biggest. It was a joke, but underneath, it was really true. Number one is much better than number two.
11I think maybe we (Queen) were subconsciously influenced by The Beatles' albums, I think really, especially the later ones, like Rubber Soul, Revolver and Abbey Road. They were very eclectic albums.
12I picked up a guitar and found it very difficult and I sort of graduated to drums because I found them very easy - I suppose it was a case of natural aptitude. Mitch Mitchell [Mitch Mitchell] was my role model at the time, and I still think listening to Mitch Mitchell, especially the early stuff with Hendrix (Jimi Hendrix), is just fantastic.
13The first time I saw Led Zeppelin, Bonzo (John Bonham) just walked on the stage and just warmed up for about 10 seconds. Freddie (Freddie Mercury) and I nearly fell over we just couldn't believe the power and the sound. People are still today trying to imitate Led Zeppelin, America is full of drummers trying to play like John Bonham.
14The greatest Rock'n'Roll drummer of all time was John Bonham who did things that nobody had ever even thought possible before with the drum kit. And also the greatest sound out of his drums - they sounded enormous, and just one bass drum. So fast on it that he did more with one bass drum than most people could do with three, if they could manage them. And he had technique to burn and fantastic power and tremendous feel for rock'n'roll. "When the levee breaks" is the archetypal heavy drum sound - it's never been bettered - it's like a steamroller, enormous bass drum. Simple but takes feel.
15I saw Buddy Rich playing. He was wonderful, fantastic. I would say of just sheer technique he's the best I've ever seen.
16[on drum machines] Fantastic to write with. They have their place, they're terribly useful to the musician, but they're just another tool. They never will replace a good drummer. A lot of the bands that use them, I call them typewriter bands because basically they program the sample sounds with no real dynamics, and that dynamics is very important. And the records come out sounding very flat and very 2-dimensional whereas something with real dynamics and a good drummer can add another dimension, depth, to the band and that's why bands that play together when they're actually making the record will always sound better.
17There's something rather nice about spending the evening hitting things. (On drumming)
18There are stereotypes and it is quite amazing how often members of bands seem to follow those stereotypes. Singers are all vain. Guitarists are all vain but won't admit it. Bass players are quiet people, and drummers are very exciting people to be with.
19We're not going out there with somebody pretending to be Freddie Mercury. We are what we are now; we're not what we were then, we're just going out, playing our songs.
20We (pop stars) are people not androids. We've got views. I've got opinions and I don't see why I shouldn't use a bit of my art to put them over. I think music is one of the most powerful media forces in the world today.
