Roosevelt Grier was born on the 14 July 1932, in Cuthbert, Georgia USA, and is an actor, singer, and former professional American Football player, who played as a defensive lineman for the New York Giants (1955–1962) and Los Angeles Rams (1963–1966), being selected to the Pro Bowl on two occasions in 1956 and 1960. Grier’s playing career started in 1955 and ended in 1966, while his acting career began in 1965.

Rosey Grier was one of twelve children and grew up in Georgia, but went to the Abraham Clark High School in Roselle, New Jersey, where he played high school football before matriculating in 1951. Rosey later enrolled at Penn State University and spent the next four years there, while in the 1955 NFL Draft, the New York Giants selected him as the 31st overall pick in the third round.

Grier stayed with the Giants from 1955 to 1962 and won the NFL Championship in 1956, and also the Eastern Conference Championship in 1958, 1959, 1961, and 1962. In 1956, 1958, and 1959, Rosey was named All-Pro, while in 1956 and 1960, he represented the Giants at the Pro Bowl. In 1963, he was traded to the Los Angeles Rams and stayed there until 1966, when he retired after tearing an Achilles tendon.

In 1965, Grier appeared in an episode of the Golden Globe-winning series “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.”, while in 1969, he starred in his debut TV movie called “The Desperate Mission”, and then played in “Carter’s Army” (1970). From 1969 to 1970, Grier had a role in 16 episodes of “Daniel Boone” and then in six episodes of the Golden Globe Award-nominated “Make Room for Granddaddy” (1970-1971). Rosey continued work in “Skyjacked” (1972) alongside Charlton Heston, James Brolin, and Yvette Mimieux, and he starred in “The Thing with Two Heads” (1972). From 1975 to 1976, Grier appeared in six episodes of “Movin’ On”, while in 1978, he played in the Primetime Emmy Award-nominated “To Kill a Cop”. Rosey also appeared in numerous TV shows, but only in minor roles, while his latest credit came in the short movie called “The Rooneys” in 2010.

Rosey Grier is also an established writer, and has published several books such as “Rosey Grier’s Needlepoint for Men” (1973), “Rosey, an Autobiography: The Gentle Giant” (1986), “Rosey Grier’s All-American Heroes: Today’s Multicultural Success Stories” (1993), and most recently, “The Glory Game: How the 1958 NFL Championship Changed Football Forever” (2008), the sales of which have only increased further his net worth.
