Sally Lowenthal was born on 25 February 1935, in Easton, Pennsylvania USA, and is a retired talk show host, best known for her TV program “Sally”. She hosted the show for two decades, and is still well-remembered for her iconic bright red eyeglasses. All of her efforts have helped put her net worth to where it is today.
How rich is Sally Jesse Raphael? As of late-2016, sources inform us of a net worth that is at $16 million, mostly earned through a successful career as a talk show host. Prior to her TV success, she also had a career in journalism and radio broadcasting. All of these achievements ensured the position of her wealth.
Sally Jesse Raphael Net Worth $16 million
Sally attended Easton Area High School and later went to New York, finding opportunity at WFAS, a local AM radio station, where she read the news for a program for high school students, and matriculated soon after. She then attended Carnegie Mellon University and later the University of Puerto Rico, following which she studied acting at the prestigious Neighborhood Playhouse in New York.
Raphael then attended Columbia University and after graduating, became a news correspondent, working for United Press International and the Associated Press. Thanks to her experience in Puerto Rico, she was highly sought after, as she spoke English and Spanish fluently, and already had radio as well as television experience from Puerto Rico, and had previously worked as a radio announcer in Miami. From then on, Sally bounced between radio stations, working several jobs. Eventually in the early 1980s, she was asked to do a call-in advice show over the radio which then led to the start of her talk show career. From then on, her net worth would start to increase.
The radio show distributed by NBC Talknet ran from 1981 to 1987, and was originally meant to be political, but she then decided she would give advice and discuss relationships instead, which led her to become nationally syndicated. She would later become highly popular as the TV host of “The Sally Jessy Raphael Show” or “Sally”; the show started in 1983 and would continue its run until 2002, gaining her many fans. It was thanks to the encouragement of Phil Donahue that Sally tried her hand at television, having little experience, but she eventually became a lot more comfortable. Her oversized red frame glasses would become a trademark by accident and she continued wearing them since fans liked it. She would win a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Talk Show in 1989.
In 2000, the show’s ratings started to seriously decline and networks were starting to become interested in other shows, and in 2002, the show was cancelled after an 18 year run. Raphael was then given several honors by Talkers Magazine such as being named as one of the 25 Greatest Television Talk Show Hosts of all time. In 2005, Sally started a daily radio show called “Sally Jessy Raphael on Talknet”. This endeavor helped maintain her net worth, as the show also became syndicated, but it ended abruptly in 2008.
For her personal life, it is known that Sally married Andrew Vladimir in 1953 and they had two daughters; their marriage would last for five years, but one of their daughters would die from an accidental overdose in 1992. In 1962, Sally married Karl Soderlund and they have an adopted son. The couple now resides in Dutchess County, New York State.

Her grandparents were all Jewish immigrants, her paternal grandparents from Poland and Russia, and her maternal grandparents from Lithuania and Russia.
2
Now hosts, with her husband and brother, a one hour weekday radio talkshow on the internet, via her website - www.sallyjr.com. [July 2004]

The source of her famous red-framed glasses goes all the way back to her first broadcast news job. She was about to start taping on her first day of work when she tripped, breaking her glasses in the process. With only minutes before taping, she raced to the nearest store to find a replacement pair. She found that the only pair that matched her prescription was cheaply made, with red frames. This soon became her trademark.
4
She has stated in interviews that she was adamantly against the trashy, Jerry Springer-inspired direction that the content of her talk-show was taking in its later years. She states that she was under constant pressure from network execs looking for big ratings and, rather than quit, stayed on for the benefit of her long-time co-workers, whom she considered family.
5
Had corrective laser eye surgery, so she longer needs to wear prescription glasses. However, Sally says she still wears her trademark red-framed glasses at the behest of her producers. Not True. Never had surgery.
