To begin with, Samuel Dalembert grew up and discovered children’s basketball in Port-au-Prince. Being 13 years old, he moved to the USA, but Montreal was the first city to host him in North America, when he played for the team of Cégep. Later, he represented St. Patrick’s High School in New Jerse, and finally joined the American University of Seton Hall. He was selected the 26th in the NBA Draft of 2001 by the Philadelphia 76ers.

As a rookie the athletic center ran for 34 games in the 2001 – 2002 season, achieving 1.5 points and 2.0 rebounds in 5.2 minutes per game. Knee surgery forced Dalembert to sit out the entire 2002 – 2003 season, but the following season was more successful as he completed all 82 games for his team, recording 8.0 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game. In further seasons, there was no improvement in Dalembert’s game, and criticism was voiced, calling Dalembert overpaid and lazy, giving him a less than professional attitude to basketball. However, in the 2006 – 2007 season , Dalembert improved in the categories point cut (10.7), rebounds per game (8.9), free throw (74.6%), field throw (54.1%) and minutes per game (30,9). He also started all the games in 2007 – 2008 and 2008 – 2009 seasons, on average achieving 10.5 points and 10.4 rebounds in 2007 – 2008. In 2008 – 2009, he got less playing time and reached 6.4 points and 8.5 rebounds.

For the 2010 – 2011 season, he was transferred to the Sacramento Kings by the 76ers in exchange for Spencer Hawes and Andrés Nocioni. He didn’t sign a new contract for the 2011- 2012 season with the Kings, and became a free agent. Shortly before the beginning the 2011 – 2012 season, Dalembert was committed by the Houston Rockets, but after one season he was transferred to the Milwaukee Bucks. In the Bucks, however, Dalembert was not able to get through as hoped for, because of breaking down through injuries. During the 2013 – 2014 season, Dalembert moved to the Dallas Mavericks, but again after just a year Dalembert was transferred from to the New York Knicks for the 2014 – 2015 season. However, in the middle of 2015, Dalembert returned to the Dallas Mavericks for the 2015 – 2016 season, but at the end of 2015, Dalembert signed a contract with Shanxi Zhongyu in the Chinese CBA.
