Before venturing on his own, Seth was like most of the world, working for a corporation; precisely, he was a part of the Spinnaker, but after he grew tired of working for others, he used his savings – which amounted to just $20,000 – to found his own company, Seth Godin Productions, which ran as a book packaging business.
However, after meeting Mark Hurst, he started Yoyodyne, which is used for promoting the concept of permission marketing. The company opened in 1995, and after several years of successful operation, Seth sold the company to Yahoo!, and as a part of the deal, Seth was named Yahoo’s vice president of direct marketing, which significantly increased his net worth.
His next venture was the revenue-sharing article-writing site Squidoo, founded in 2006. On the site, users could post their own articles, which Seth cold lenses, and by October 2010, the site had more than 1.5 million lenses.
