In 1984, Shanice got her TV debut in the series “Kids Incorporated” as she appeared as a dancer in ten episodes. Soon after, Shanice secured a professional contract with A&M Records, and released her debut album “Discovery” in 1987, which peaked at No.149 position on the US Billboard 200 chart and No.37 on the US Billboard Top R&B Albums. The singles “(Baby Tell Me) Can You Dance” and “No 1/2 Steppin’” reached No.6 on the R&B chart.

This early success secured her a contract with Motown Records, and the second album called “Inner Child” in 1991, which peaked at No.13 on the Billboard’s Top R&B Albums chart, while the single “I Love Your Smile” reached No.2 on Pop and No.1 on R&B charts, including the top ten in 22 countries.
