Sharna is a daughter of Ray and Lucy Burgess. While growing up she had more of boyish looks, however, she found herself in ballet and other dances, but was also into sports. Nevertheless, young Sharna focused on ballet and when she turned eight years old began training in ballroom dance. In the following years, Sharna showed her skills and won several local and national titles, and when she turned 15, Sharna was selected to perform at the World Championships for Australia in the categories of Standard and Latin styles.
