As expected, people involved with the biggest Internet companies earn a lot of money. But how much money exactly is it? Sources estimate Sheryl Sandberg’s current net worth to be an incredible $1.7 billion.

How does someone reach such an impressive position? Not by chance – Sheryl attended Harvard College and graduated in 1991 summa cum laude with a BA and the John H. Williams Prize for the top graduating student in economics, then graduated from Harvard Business School in 1995 with an MBA and a high distinction. Sheryl firstly worked for McKinsey & Company as a management consultant, but after a year she moved to a more important position – for four years she was the Chief of Staff for the US Secretary of the Treasury (under then president Bill Clinton) which was a big achievement in her career. Sheryl Sandberg’s net worth was also certainly growing!

However, in 2001 she became the Global Online Sales and Operations Vice-President in Google Inc., which was a huge and influential company even back then, so working there undoubtedly influenced Sheryl’s net worth too. In 2007, Sheryl was already considering changing her job position, and when she met Facebook’s creator Mark Zuckerberg, everything just fell into place. While he wasn’t officially looking for a COO, talking with Sheryl made him realise that she would be perfect for his company.

Before Sandberg joined the team, Facebook had mostly been a social website that people enjoyed, but it wasn’t very profitable. That is what Sheryl’s task was – make Facebook more profitable. After two years of working there, she succeeded – in 2010 Facebook became a profitable company. This is what made Sheryl Sandberg’s net worth explode. Since 2012, she has been one of the eight Facebook directors (and the only female).

Since working in Facebook made her famous (and extremely rich), Sheryl Sandberg is now a board member of a number of companies such as Women for Women International, The Walt Disney Company, V-Day and Centre for Global Development. Sheryl’s incredible success inspired her to write a book – in 2013 she published the book titled “Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead” where she expresses her opinion about feminism, why there are so few women in senior business and government positions and what should happen if that is to change. The book’s target audience is not solely female – it is meant to be read by both men and women, because according to Sheryl Sandberg, everyone would benefit if society accepted equal opportunities and work conditions regardless of gender.

In the last few years, Sheryl has received various honours – she has been ranked number 10 in the “Most Powerful Women in Business” list published in Fortune Magazine in 2014, she appeared on Time magazine’s “Time 100” list and in “The World’s 50 Most Influential Jews” list published in the Jerusalem Post.

In her personal life, Sheryl Sandberg was first married to Brian Kraff (1993–94), and is now married to David Golberg, the CEO of Survey Monkey. The couple has two children and live in Atherton, California.
