Shirley grew up in Passaic, New Jersey, as her family moved while she was still a child. She attended Passaic High School, where she met other members of The Shirelles and soon started performing at school dances and talents shows, a modest start to her net worth. They made a breakthrough in 1958, when they signed with “Tiara Records”, as their manager was Florence Greenberg, the owner of this production house. They released their first single “I Met Him On A Sunday” in 1959 which became a local hit. After the initial success, Florence sold the rights of the group to “Decca Records”, but their next releases didn`t make it to the chart, and as a result, the group was waived by Decca Records. Since Florence was still their manager, she signed them with her new record label “Scepter Records”. Their first full length album was released in 1961, entitled “Tonight`s The Night”, and it featured their hit song “Will You Love Me Tomorrow”. From then, Shirley`s net worth began to increase, as the group continued to have numerous successful releases. Their second album was released in a year later, entitled “Baby It`s You” and it spawned a hit song of the same name and “Soldier Boy”.

The Shirelles released a total of 11 studio albums, including “Foolish Little Girl” (1963), “Happy And In Love” (1971), and their last studio release “Eternally, Soul”(1973). In 1975, Shirley left the group in order to pursue a solo career. Her debut album, “With A Little Help From My Friends”, was released the same year, under the pseudonym “Lady Rose”. However, her solo career didn`t live up to its potential, and Shirley began to tour the world with other music groups. In 2000, Shirley performed at the Doo Wop 51 PBS special, and now tours the world with a group of musicians under the name “Shirley Alston Reeves And Her Shirelles”.

Overall, her career is rather successful, as she has received numerous awards including Pioneer Award, for the group`s contribution to music, presented by Rhythm And Blues Foundation, and they were featured on the Rolling Stone`s magazine list of 100 Greatest Artists Of All Time at number 76. Furthermore, a street in their home town, Passaic, was named after the group, The Shirelles Boulevard.

Regarding her personal life, Shirley has been married twice. However, there is no further information about these marriages, only that she changed her last name to Alston and later Reeves.
