Stanley Clarke Net Worth $3 Million
To begin with, Clarke was raised in Philadelphia. He played the accordion, the cello and the violin in his childhood, and began to take an serious interest in music through classical works and composers such as Bach and Richard Wagner. Then, he devoted himself to the double bass, and discovered rock and jazz and the electric bass under the influence of musicians like Billy Cox, who is considered an important figure of current jazz rock. After studying at the Philadelphia Musical Academy for four years, Stanley Clarke played with various rock bands.
Concerning his professional career, he joined as a double bass player the pianist Horace Silver, and began to build a reputation in jazz at the age of 18. In the early 1970s, he accompanied saxophonist Joe Henderson for a year, and also played with Pharoah Sanders and Stan Getz. Thanks to the latter, the bassist made the acquaintance with the keyboardist Chick Corea, with whom he founded the jazz fusion group Return to Forever in 1972. Clarke participated in the recording of several albums of the group, and also began a solo career as a bassist of jazz rock. Clarke also played with rock musicians like Jeff Beck and guitarists Ron Wood as well as Keith Richards from the Rolling Stones. During the 1980s, he recorded some pieces with keyboardist George Duke and with the band Animal Logic, also composed for drummer Stewart Copeland and singer Deborah Holland. In 1995, he played on the album “The Rite of Strings” with guitarist Al Di Meola and violinist Jean-Luc Ponty.
Clarke also composed for film and television. During the 1990s he wrote the music for several films, including “Boyz n the Hood” and “Poetic Justice” both directed by John Singleton, “Passenger 57” by Kevin Hooks and “Little Big League” by Andrew Scheinman. Since 2008, he has been part of the SMV bassist group with Marcus Miller and Victor Wooten. In 2011, during the Grammy Awards, his album “The Stanley Clarke Band” was awarded in the category Best Contemporary Jazz Album. Overall, Clarke has released more than 20 studio albums, which have added significant sums to the overall size of his net worth.
Moreover, Stanley Clarke launched the ephemeral record label Slamm Dunk in 1992, which is a subsidiary of Epic Records. During the 2000s, he founded the independent label Roxboro Entertainment Group.
Finally, in the personal life of the musician, currently he is single. He was married to Carolyn Reese and was also in a relationship with Howard Hewett.
