Born in Brentwood, Essex, in England Moyer started his career at a very early age. As young as seven years old, he was already singing with a church choir. Later on while attending St. Martin’s School, he became head of the choir at the church and he also started singing at his school where the headmaster recognised his talent.
Moyer’s headmaster introduced him to acting and gave him the lead part in the play “Tom Sawyer”. It sparked his love for performing and soon he joined local company The Reject Society and started producing and acting in his own plays.
Later, Moyer decided to pursue acting full time and applied to a drama school to hone his craft. He got accepted to the prestigious London Academy for Music and the Dramatic Arts where he studied acting. After finishing acting school, he started joining various theatre productions like the Theatre of Wales, Oxford Stage Company and the highly respected Royal Shakespeare Company.
Moyer appeared in various theatre productions including “Antigone”, “Oedipus Rex”, “Measure for Measure”, “’Tis Pity She’s a Whore” and even played the coveted role of Romeo in “Romeo and Juliet” where he toured with the company. His early years in the stage started his career as an adult and also helped build his net worth.
After some years acting in plays, Moyer decided to transition into television to advance his career. He started appearing in British television in 1993 and his early works include “Conjugal Rites”, “Men Only”, “The Grand”, and “NY-LON”. Although his starting roles are small, it still helped him move from theatre to television and also increased his wealth.
In 1997, after years working on television Moyer got a breakthrough role in film and became the lead character in the “Prince Valiant”. Other projects followed and slowly his becoming a movie star. Other films that he starred in include “Quills”, “Undiscovered”, and “88 Minutes”. He also continued working in television with appearances in “Uprising” and “The Started Wife”.
Finally in 2007, Moyer career catapulted to success when he got the role in the HBO television series “True Blood”. He played the role of a 175-year old vampire, one of the lead characters on the show. Soon “True Blood” created a cult-following especially when it came out during the vampire era and many other films and television uses vampire as their theme. The show was a success and immediately made him a star overnight.
After seven successful seasons, “True Blood” bid goodbye to its audience. The success of the show also helped in increasing his net worth.
Moyer today is still active in acting. Some of his recent works include “Concussion”, “Juveniles” and “Detours”. In terms of his personal life, Moyer is married to actress Anna Paquin whom he met during the production of “True Blood”. The couple has four kids, two from Moyer’s previous marriage and the couple has a twin.

(On acting in violent scenes with his character, Jimmy Collins, in Empathy (2007)) I'm not like that in real life, so when I get the chance to punch a bit of air and let out a bit of steam, I love it.

(in a 2007 interview) I said to my son not that long ago, 'What do you want to do when you're older?' He said, 'I'm going to have to go away and think about it.' So off he went. He came back and said, 'Daddy, I've decided that I want to be an actor.'
3
(in a 2007 interview) If you'd asked me if I believed in the paranormal this time last year I'd have said no. I used to be an atheist, but I've chilled out a bit on that. A couple of things in the past year have made me think maybe there is something to it.
4
("we" being British actors) American actors are incredibly professional when preparing for a shot or getting into character, whereas we tend to be having a laugh and mucking about. We'll be more relaxed up until the point the camera rolls. That's not a criticism by any means, but there's a different way of working.
5
(on shooting in New York) It was a dream to shoot there and not be a tourist.
