Steven Alexander Wright was born on 6 December 1955, in Cambridge, Massachusetts USA, to mother Lucille ‘Dolly’ of Italian descent, and father Alexander K. Wright of Scottish descent. He is a stand-up comedian, actor, writer and film producer, perhaps best known for his lethargic voice and deadpan delivery of one-liners, often characterized by irony and deeply philosophical themes.
So just how rich is Steven Wright now? Sources state that Wright has earned a net worth of over $800,000, as of early 2017, acquired through his involvement in the entertainment industry.
Steven Wright Net Worth $800,000
Wright grew up in Burlington, Massachusetts, along with his three siblings. He attended Middlesex Community College in Bedford, and upon obtaining his associate’s degree, enrolled in Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts, graduating with a degree in Mass Communications in 1978.
The following year he started to perform stand-up comedy at Boston’s Comedy Connection club, and went on to perform at various other local clubs, perfecting his comedic skills and building a fan base. In 1982 he was invited to appear in “The Tonight Show”, which gave his career a much needed boost. He soon began landing appearances in other shows, such as “Saturday Night Live” and “Late Night with David Letterman”. His net worth began to grow.
In 1985 Wright released “I Have a Pony”, his first comedy album, consisting of numerous one-line jokes, which proved to be a great success, earning him a nomination for the Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album. The same year he recorded a special as a live college concert performance for HBO, entitled “A Steven Wright Special”, which became the network’s longest running and most requested comedy special, earning Wright an astonishing popularity among audiences and significantly improving his wealth.
He then became interested in film making, co-writing and co-producing the short comedy film “The Appointments of Dennis Jennings” in 1988, which he also starred in, and won the Academy Award for Live Action Short Film. In 1990 Wright released another comedy special entitled “Wicker Chairs and Gravity”.
In 1999 he wrote, directed and starred in the black-and-white short film “One Soldier”, then in 2006 he released a new special entitled “Steven Wright: When the Leaves Blow Away”, followed by the long-awaited comedy album in 2007, “I Still Have a Pony”, containing the audio from the special, which earned a nomination for the Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album, considerably contributing to Wright’s popularity and to his net worth as well.
In 2010, he became a part of the producing team of the FX comedy-drama television series “Louie”, which brought him two nominations for Emmy Awards.
Throughout his career, Wright has appeared in a number of television and film projects. He made his film debut in the 1985 comedy/drama film “Desperately Seeking Susan”, starring Madonna. During the ’90s, he made appearances in television series such as “Mad About You”, in which he had the recurring role of Warren Mermelman, and landed smaller parts in ’90s films such as “Natural Born Killers”, “Speechless” and “The Muse”, and also did some voice over work, providing the voice for characters in several animated series including “Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist” and “The Simpsons”. His most recent voice over role has been in the upcoming 3D computer-animated comedy film “The Emoji Movie”, set to be released in 2017.
Aside from acting and stand-up, Wright is also a musician and has recorded several non-comedy songs.
Speaking about his personal life, sources are unaware of any information regarding Wright’s relationship/marital status, or of other details from his off-camera life.
