Controversial from the very beginning – according to his own allegations, his birth was the result of a 100-year-old prophecy, and before he was born he spent 15 months in his mother’s belly. Also, as a three-day-old infant, he survived a boulder crushing his home from a local quarry explosion, missing him by inches. Despite attending St. Stephen’s Anglican Primary School between 1971 and 1977, he did not manage to complete his education. During his young days, he was known as “small pastor”, due to his avid love of the Bible. When his tuition ended, Joshua began by doing a series of odd jobs, including washing people’s legs on the streets of Laos to working on a chicken farm, before he began holding Bible studies for the local children. Although he signed to enter the Nigerian military forces, due to a train breakdown his intentions were thwarted.
In 1987, after visiting a ‘prayer mountain’ and praying and fasting for 40 days, Joshua “experienced” a vision from God, which resulted in founding his own ministry – The Synagogue, Church of All Nations (SCOAN). Although in the beginning his masses were attended by only a handful of followers, he rapidly gained attention, and soon after over 15,000 members started to visit his services weekly. The controversies came later, when Joshua and his SCOAN began releasing videos proclaiming that he could cure incurable illnesses including HIV/AIDS. All of this was backed up by people who also claimed that they were cured and healed through Joshua’s “Anointing Water”. Besides “dealing” with possessed spirits during his service, Joshua also claims that he is a prophet who predicted events such as the Boston marathon bombing, Michael Jackson’s death and the 2015 terrorist attacks in Paris, among many others. Doubtlessly, all of these proclamations have helped T. B. Joshua to gain more popularity, fame and followers which has certainly impacted the total of his net worth.
In 2006, T. B. Joshua founded Emmanuel TV – today’s biggest Christian television network with over 400,000 subscribers, which via its broadcasting portal Streaming Faith daily emits Joshua’s preaching. It is certain that this accomplishment only increased T. B. Joshua’s wealth.
Apart from all those already mentioned above, Joshua is also a published author with four released books so far, such as “What The Future Holds”, “Daily Time With God”, “The Step Between You And The Cure” and “The Mirror”.
When it comes to his personal life, Joshua has been married to Evelyn since 1990, with whom he has welcomed three children.
Joshua is also a philanthropist and humanitarian who, through his SCOAN, so far has spent a sum of over $20 million on various charity causes, including militants rehabilitation program, scholarships and 2010 Haiti disaster victims among numerous others. For his humanitarian efforts, Joshua was rewarded with National Honor by the Nigerien government, and was named as the Ambassador of Peace
