Taral Hicks grew up in New York along with her older sister, actress and singer D’atra Hicks, and went to the Grace Dodge Vocational High School in The Bronx, from where she matriculated in 1993.
That same year, Hicks debuted in Robert De Niro’s movie “A Bronx Tale” alongside De Niro and Chazz Palminteri, while in 1995 she signed a record deal with Motown Records. Also in 1995, Taral appeared alongside Sean Connery, Laurence Fishburne and Kate Capshaw in “Just Cause”, while in 1996, she played in Penny Marshall’s Oscar Award-nominated “The Preacher’s Wife” starring Denzel Washington, Whitney Houston, and Courtney B. In 1997, Hicks released her debut studio album en titled “This Time”, but it failed to enter the Billboard chart, despite having successful singles such as “Ooh, Ooh Baby” (feat.
