Ted Cruz spent one part of his childhood in his hometown, where he was raised by his father, Rafael Bienvenido Cruz y Díaz, and his mother, Eleanor Elizabeth Wilson, a computer programmer, until in 1974 when the family moved to Houston, Texas, and there he later attended Faith West Academy and Second Baptist High School, from which he matriculated as valedictorian. Afterwards, he enrolled in Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, graduating cum laude with a BA degree in Public Policy. As a student, he won the top speaker awards at both the 1992 North American Debating Championship, and the 1992 US National Debating Championship. Afterwards, he continued his education at Harvard Law School, graduating magna cum laude with a Juris Doctorate degree in 1995. While in there, he was not only an editor of the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy, but also an editor of the Harvard Law Review. He founded the Harvard Latino Law Review too, and was known as a John M. Olin Fellow in Law and Economics.

Right after graduation in 1995, Ted was hired as a law clerk to work for J. Michael Luttig at the US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, which marked the establishment of his net worth. Afterwards, he worked for William Rehnquist, who served as the Chief Justice of the United States at that time, and he also worked at Cooper & Kirk, PLLC from 1997 to 1998.

In 1999, he was appointed a domestic policy adviser to George W. Bush during his presidential election campaign, and when Bush won the election, Ted was chosen to serve in the position of the director of policy planning at the US Federal Trade Commission, as well as an associate deputy attorney general for the US Justice Department, adding a considerable amount to his net worth.

Ted achieved enormous popularity when he served as the 3rd Solicitor General of Texas from 2003 until 2008, and was named as one of the 50 Best Litigators under 45 in the US by the American Lawyer magazine, which increased his net worth by a large margin. Upon leaving the position of Solicitor General, he began working for Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, a private law company.

To speak further about his career, Ted was hired as the Vice-Chairman at the National Republican Senatorial Committee in 2012. In the following year, he won the election for US Senator from Texas, defeating David Dewhurst with 56.4% of votes, the first Hispanic to be elected as a US Senator from Texas. He subsequently threw his hat in the ring as a Republican candidate for the Presidency in 2016, but withdrew early in the campaign. Most recently he announced that he will run for re-election in Texas in November 2018, so his net worth is certainly still rising.

1I believe God isn't done with America yet.
2[on recent fellow-Republican presidential contenders] You want to lose elections? Stand for nothing. We put our head down, we stood for nothing, and we got walloped.
3Changing Washington isn't easy, and we shouldn't be surprised when official Washington fights back. People who were used to making decisions in smoky rooms behind closed doors don't know how to operate in today's world, where people have direct access to information, can form their own opinions and know how to make their views heard.
