Thomas Francis McGuane III (born December 11, 1939) is an American author. His work includes ten novels, short fiction and screenplays, as well as three collections of essays devoted to his life in the outdoors. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters, The National Cutting Horse Association Hall of Fame and the Flyfishing Hall of Fame.
Around 1970, McGuane moved with wife Becky and son Thomas McGuane IV to Key West, Florida, where their home became a major drinking-and-partying place for writers and artists, including poet Jim Harrison, painter Russell Chatham, photographer Guy Valdene, and rock singer Jimmy Buffett.

Has three children: son Thomas Francis McGuane IV, born to Becky Crockett, a direct descendant of the frontiersman Davy Crockett (she later married Peter Fonda); daughter Maggie, born to Margot Kidder; and daughter Anne, born to Laurie Buffett, the sister of singer Jimmy Buffett.
