Tim Conway Wiki Biography

Thomas Daniel Conway was born on 15 December 1933, in Willoughby, Ohio, USA, of Romanian and Irish descent. Tim is an actor, probably best known for his portrayal of the character Ensign Charles Parker in the sitcom “McHale’s Navy”. He’s also known to be the voice of the character Barnacle Boy in the television cartoon series “SpongeBob SquarePants”. The various endeavors he’s worked on have helped raise his net worth to where it is now.

How rich is Tim Conway? As of mid-2017, sources estimate that his net worth is at $20 million, mostly earned through a successful career on television. Aside from television, he’s also found success working at radio stations and films. Prior to him becoming recognized as an actor, he also served in the United States Army.

Tim Conway Net Worth $20 Million

Tim attended and graduated from Bowling Green State University, where he took a major in speech and radio. After school, he decided to join the United States Army where he eventually completed his service. He returned and took a job at a local radio station. Conway worked on mail and as a writer in KYW-TV and then later WJW-TV. He continued to develop his skills as a writer and started doing comedy work. He then became known for appearing as various alter egos in several shows, all of which earned him recognition. In 1961, Tim was introduced to the actress Rose Marie who helped him move to New York City to audition for “The Steve Allen Show”. He was successful and stayed with the series for two seasons, after which he was cast in “McHale’s Navy” where he gained a lot of popularity along with a significant increase of his net worth. He then starred in a television series entitled “Rango”, which was short lived, and part of the pilot for the series “Turn-On” which was considered a disaster due to how advanced it was in using sexuality as part of comedy. The show only lasted for one episode with threats from both people and affiliates urging ABC to stop the show.

In 1970, Conway finally founded his own show called “The Tim Conway Show” but it only lasted for six months. He continued to work for shows with titles that included his name but all of them were short lived. Around this time, Conway was also given the chance to be part of a few Disney films.

Starting from 1975, Tim took parts in several Disney films which include “The Apple Dumpling Gang”, and “The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again”. He also began making comedy film appearances including “The Private Eyes” and “The Prize Fighter”. Conway’s best work would come in “The Carol Burnett Show”, where his memorable performances would earn him five Emmy Awards. In 1980 “The Tim Conway Show” was revived but this time by CBS and was on air for one year, having regular cast members and guests. In more recent times, Tim has continued to appear in various series and has done voice acting as well.

For his personal life, it is known that Tim has married twice, firstly to Mary Anne Dalton was from 1961 to 1978, and which produced six children. His present marriage is to Charlene Fusco and they have been married since 1984. Conway has stated that he is a Roman Catholic. He also engages in charity work such as fund-raiser performances.

1His thick, nasally voice
1[in 2013, at his friend Carol Burnett's Mark Twain Award ceremony] Ms. Lawrence [Vicki Lawrence] and I go wherever Carol's being honored. This is the sixth city this week.
2[Of Ernest Borgnine] Yeah, I'm afraid--he's unbelievable. He lives not too far from us. And I also do a SpongeBob SquarePants (1999) with him and we do a couple of voice-overs on it. And he'll, you know, he comes running down the hall like a 12-year-old, he grabs me, he gives me a hug, breaks a couple of ribs and I see him again in a couple of weeks. But he just is--it's wonderful, he's what 90 now and he just gets in his tractor--or a tractor--his trailer and drives around the country. He'll stop someplace for a week and just sit out in front of a store and talk to people. He loves people; he loves just, you know . . . being himself. And what a talent, I mean, to go from, you know, a [Marty (1955)] and an Oscar winner . . . to Fatso Judson.
3[of his on- and off-screen chemistry with Ernest Borgnine on McHale's Navy (1962)] And I went out and did it--Ernie was sensational. I mean, here's an Oscar-winner, dealing with a guy who should be in Cleveland. And to go from Marty (1955) to From Here to Eternity (1953) and Bad Day at Black Rock (1955), I mean, the Alpha-Omega of acting and here's me, who didn't know anything about this. So, one day I thought I would impress Ernie and see what I know what I'm doing, and I said, "Before we're doing a shot", I said, "Ernie, what is my motivation in this particular scene?' He said, "If you don't get this shot by 5 P.M., I'm going to kick you in the ass". So that was my acting lesson; and that's the only one I've ever had.
4[When asked if he runs into Ernest Borgnine a lot] I run into Ernie fairly frequently. He has a great feeling for seeing and being with people. He travels around the country in a trailer, stops at little towns, jumps in, speaks to people, and moves on. He loves to do that kind of thing.
5[on his favorite comic heroes of all time] Jackie Gleason, Steve Allen, Tom Poston, Don Knotts. Don Knotts was a really big influence, especially on The Steve Allen Plymouth Show (1956). I mean, look at the guy, his entire life is in his face. And you can't TV surf without coming across an The Andy Griffith Show (1960) episode, where you've just got to watch Don as "Barney Fife". And that's why I put Don in several of my movies.
6It's been such a great ride because I've got to do all the great things I respect in comedy, and met the people I respect in comedy.
7[of the late Harvey Korman, his friend and co-star on The Carol Burnett Show (1967)] Harvey was one of the brightest people I've ever met, but the man could not tie his own shoes. He looked at life from an entirely different angle. I would put him on constantly. We were on an airplane one time, coming back [to Los Angeles] from New York, and we had to land in Arizona to refuel. We were taxiing out to the next runway, and I said to Harvey, "I don't know if the guy put the gas cap back on. It was on the wing and now it's not". Harvey got worried. So he got up and went to the pilot and said, "Your gas cap's not on". And the pilot just looked at him. There is no gas cap!
8[about his childhood dyslexia] People thought that I was kidding when I would read out loud in school, so they started laughing. For instance, the book "They Were Expendable" I read as "They Were Expandable". People were going, "This guy is great! Expandable! What are you talking about, rubber people?" I thought, "I must be funny, so I might as well continue with this."
9People come up to me and start conversations. Dogs sniff me. It's quite an easy life, actually.
1His acting mentor and former neighbor Ernest Borgnine, passed away on July 8, 2012, at age 95. (Conway had also worked with Borgnine on the popular cartoon, SpongeBob SquarePants (1999), voicing their own roles, respectively, for 13 years, until the summer, Borgnine passed away.).
2Is very good friends with Dick Van Dyke, Carol Burnett and Vicki Lawrence.
3Was very close friends with Harvey Korman and Don Knotts.
4Surrogate son of Ernest Borgnine.
5Revealed that he had a wonderful working relationship with Ernest Borgnine on McHale's Navy (1962).
6Lived not too far from Ernest Borgnine.
7Host of an infomercial for the "Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts" video collection. [2007]
8Appeared in a commercial regarding the California energy crisis with step-daughter, Jacqueline Beatty. [2001]
9USA: Continues to tour with his live show "Tim Conway and Friends." [October 2011]
10Took part in honoring his friend Carol Burnett in All-Star Party for Carol Burnett (1982) and the The Mark Twain Award Ceremony.
11Worked many times with his co star Harvey Korman outside The Carol Burnett Show (1967) on a comedy tour. He also worked with Carol Burnett in Touched by an Angel (1994) and Hot in Cleveland (2010). The co-star he worked with most was Vicki Lawrence in Yes, Dear (2000) six times and the "Hermie & Friends" (2004) cartoon series.
12His acting mentor was the late Ernest Borgnine.
13Best known by the public for his role as Ens. Charles Parker on McHale's Navy (1962).
14In his guest appearance on the 30 Rock (2006) episode, 30 Rock: Subway Hero (2008), his character, "Bucky Bright", is escorted around the office. When he identifies himself in a picture, the image is an actual publicity photo of the McHale's Navy (1962) cast. Conway starred in "McHale's Navy" and is the person in the picture at which he pointed.
15Father of Jamie "Jake" Conway.
16Was local TV comedy team partner with Ernie Anderson (father of director Paul Thomas Anderson) until Conway moved away from Cleveland.
17Is of Irish descent on his father's side and Romanian descent on his mother's side.
18In 2004 was named a Disney Legend.
19Biography in: "Who's Who in Comedy" by Ronald L. Smith. Pg. 115-116. New York: Facts on File, 1992. ISBN 0816023387
20He is a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity
21Earned a degree in television and radio from Bowling Green State University.
22Father of Tim Conway Jr., Corey Conway, Jaime Conway (aka "Jake"), Pat Conway, Seann Conway and Kelly Conway.
23His car's license plate reads "13 WKS", a reference to the fact that all of his solo television projects have been cancelled after 13 weeks.
24He became notorious on The Carol Burnett Show (1967) for making the cast members--especially co-star Harvey Korman--break up with laughter during taping, while he remained in character. Unlike most shows, these bits were usually left in the routines when the episodes were aired.
25Has been called "the best second-banana in the business".
26Comedienne Rose Marie discovered him and arranged for him to audition for The Steve Allen Plymouth Show (1956). He so impressed Allen that Conway wound up with a regular spot on the show.
27First name was changed to Tim to avoid confusion with Tom Conway
