Tom Skerritt Net Worth $8 Million

The youngest of three children to Roy, a businessman and Helen, a homemaker, Tom grew up in his hometown and went to Mackenzie High School. Following matriculation, he enrolled at Wayne State University, after which he attended the University of California, Los Angeles.
Tom`s professional career began in the early 1960s, with a role in the film “War Hunt” (1962). Through the 1960s, he had several roles in such TV series as “Combat!” (1962-1967), “12 O’Clock High” (1964-1967), “Death Valley Days” (1963-1968), and “The Virginian” (1962-1971) among others, all of which helped him to build his career, but also increased his net worth.

Tom began the next decade with the role of Duke Forrest in the film “M.A.S,H.” (1970), and continued with roles in “Wild Rovers” (1971), “Thieves Like Us” (1974), and “Big Bad Mama” (1974). In the second half, his roles became more frequent and notable, as he appeared in such films as “Plot Of Fear” (1976), “The Turning Point” (1977), “Ice Castles” (1978), and “Alien” (1979), increasing further his net worth.

He continued to be quite busy in the next decade, starring in such creations as “Savage Harvest” (1981), “Silence Of The North” (1981), “A Dangerous Summer” (1982), “The Dead Zone” (1983), “Top Gun” (1986) with Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer, “Poltergeist III” (1988), and “Steel Magnolias” (1989), with such stars as Dolly Parton, and Daryl Hannah, all of which added a lot to his net worth.

Nothing changed for Tom in the 1990s as he continued to line up successful appearances one after another; he secured roles in such high achieving films as “Poison Ivy” (1992) with Drew Barrymore, “A River Runs Through It” (1992), “Contact” (1997) alongside Jodie Foster and Matthew McConaughey, directed by Robert Zemeckis, and the TV show which confirmed him as an actor – “Picket Fences” (1992-1996). Thanks to the popularity of these films and series, his net worth increased to a large degree.

His first role in the new millennium was in the film “An American Daughter” (2000) as Walter, and the same year he featured in the film “High Noon”. In the first half of the 2000s, he was a part of such productions as “Path To War” (2002), with Donald Sutherland and Alec Baldwin, “Tears of the Sun” (2003) starring Bruce Willis and Monica Bellucci, and “Swing” (2003), among others, all of which added to his net worth.

He continued in the same manner in the second half, featuring in films and TV series such as “Brothers & Sisters” (2006-2009), “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” (2008), and “Whiteout” (2009) with Kate Beckinsale and Gabriel Macht.

Since 2010, Tom has found engagement in several more popular accomplishments, including “Redemption Road” (2010) with Taryn Manning and Michael Clarke Duncan, “Redwood Highway” (2013), “Field of Lost Shoes” (2014), and most recently “A Hologram For The King” (2016).

#Quote
1I have never really capitalized effectively on the successful films I have appeared in. And I have been in some pretty damn good films. What it comes down to is what someone told me years ago -- if you have one hit and the next two are not successful, then you have to start from scratch again. That's what happened to me. It's like a game, I suppose, and I've been doing OK.
2It's concentration and luck. There are many prominent people in this business who choose certain types of pictures and play a derivation of a certain character they always play so they are immediately identifiable -- and they are commercially successful because of it. I have never pursued that. I just do films that I would pay five bucks to see.
