Her career began in the early 2000s.

Have you ever wondered how rich Tracie Thoms is? According to sources, it has been estimated that Thoms’ overall net worth is over $1 million, acquired through a successful acting career which spans from films and television to theatre. Since she is still active in the entertainment industry, her net worth continues to grow.

Tracie is the elder of two children in the family. From her early childhood, she knew she wanted to become an actress, so she started studying acting when she was only ten, and went on to enroll at the Baltimore School for the Arts. Later she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Howard University, and then attended Julliard School’s Drama Division.

When it comes to her professional career, Thoms has several roles which made her famous and a familiar face among the public. These include as Mahandra McGinty in the TV show “Wonderfalls”, and also the part of Sasha in the US version of the “As If” series. In the CBS crime drama “Cold Case”, she portrays the character of homicide detective Kat Miller, and has made appearances in similar shows including “Law&Order” and “Shield”.

Apart from her television career, Thoms has also appeared in films, most notably in the musical “Rent”, the film adaptation of the Broadway musical of the same name. In 2002, she was featured in the Comedy Central film “Porn n’ Chicken” and two years later in the films “Brother to Brother” and “The Warrior Class”. Tracie also appeared next to Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway in the 2006 film version of “The Devil Wears Prada, and cooperated with director Quentin Tarantino in his film “Death Proof”. All added to her rising net worth.

When it comes to her career on stage, Thoms made her Broadway debut in “Drowning Crow”, but has also appeared in several regional and off-Broadway productions such as “The Oedipus Plays”, “Up Against the Wind”, “Come and Gone”, “The Exonerated” and “A Raisin in the Sun”. In July 2008, she replaced Merle Dandridge to reprise the character of Joanne in the final cast of “Rent”. Her more recent activities include a role in the 2014 version of “Annie”, in which she plays Annie’s “fake mother”, and starring in the romantic comedy TV series “Love” in 2016.

As there isn’t much information about her private life, rumor had it that Thoms was in a relationship with actress Rosario Dawson in 2006; this turned out to be false, but five years later the actress was said to have a boyfriend called J.Lee, but this too was never confirmed. She remains single!

1The L.A. theater scene is very different. The perception has been that people who love theater do theater in New York. The people who want to be discovered do theater on the side in L.A. But there are people who are very dedicated to theater who love theater in L.A.
2I think theater will always be my first love. I've been doing it since I was nine, and there's nothing quite like being on stage, having the immediate intake of energy and exchange of ideas.
3People can graduate from beauty school and know everything about white hair and nothing about African-American hair.
4African-Americans are always forced to learn the other culture, but the other culture is not forced to learn ours. I went to acting school at Juilliard, and we learned Shakespeare and Shaw, but we never did the work of a single African-American playwright, not August Wilson or Ntozake Shange or Imir Baraka.
5I'm really looking forward to developing just really fun, complex, interesting stories about people who happen to be black.
6I like shows that are ensemble-based, that explore the humanity of every character.
1Added to the cast of the TV Series, Cold Case (2003) on CBS, she plays homicide detective Kat Miller starting with the November 20th episode. [November 2005]
2In 2008 she was asked to join the final Broadway cast of "Rent", playing Joanne Jefferson, the role that she played in the 2005 film (Rent (2005)) and had always wanted to play on stage. She accepted and was on stage from July 26 2008 until the final show on September 7, 2008.
3Her father, Donald Thoms, is VP, Production at Discovery Studios, the in-house documentary production arm of Discovery Networks. Donald also hosts the Maryland Public Television Telethons.
4Has remained extremely close friends with her past co-stars Rosario Dawson, Wilson Jermaine Heredia, and Adrienne Wilkinson.
5Like the other seven lead characters, her character in Rent (2005), Joanne, is based on a character from "La Boheme". Hers was based on Alcindoro, a counselor of state. Hers is the only character whose predecessor was the opposite gender, a change made by Jonathan Larson to make reference to his own ex-girlfriend leaving him for another woman.
6Has stated publicly that she saw the original Broadway cast in the stage production of "Rent" and their performances inspired her to audition several times for the show (all unsuccessful). She finally had her opportunity to join the cast in 2005 when she became one of two "new" principal actors to join most of the original Broadway cast in the feature film version.
7Graduated from the Baltimore School for the Arts in 1993. Hosted a premiere of "Rent" in Baltimore as a benefit for the school in November 2005.
8Graduated from Juilliard, where she was classmates with Wonderfalls (2004) co-star Lee Pace.
9Graduated from Howard University with a bachelor's in fine arts.
