Eventually, he joined Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, a venture capital firm, as a general partner, and subsequently made remarkably successful investments. As India-born, Vinod has also made some significant investments in his birth country, including in the microfinance company SKS Microfinance, which focuses on helping Indian rural people with small loans.

After earning millions from all of the above mentioned ventures, in 2004 Vinod formed Khosla Ventures, a venture capital firm. The firm invests mostly in IT start-ups, and is managed by Khosla and his family.
