Willis McGahee was born to Jannie Jones and Willis McGahee. He went to Miami Springs High School for three years, after which he transferred to Miami Central High School. Upon matriculation, he enrolled at the University of Miami, where he continued playing for the Miami Hurricanes football team under the coach Butch Davis (2000-2002).
