Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, Abdul-Mateen is the son of a Muslim father and a Christian mother, and has five other older brothers and sisters. He spent of his childhood growing up in the Magnolia Projects, New Orleans, and moved later on to Oakland, California. He always wanted to be an actor, but decided to pursue architecture instead, and graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 2008.

Abdul-Mateen’s working career started out as a city planner working in San Francisco, however, when he was laid off, he decided to give acting a try. He took a degree in Master of Fine Arts at the Yale School of Drama, to hone his acting skills, and then worked on stage productions in the early years of his acting career, but with one of his early projects also including the short film “Crescendo” in 2012.

In 2016, Abdul-Mateen’s acting career took off when he got cast in the musical drama “The Get Down.” His performance as Clarence ‘Cadillac’ Cladwell on the Netflix series was well-received by both fans and critics.

In 2017, Abdul-Mateen was really boosted when he was cast in the film “Sidney Hall”, playing the role of Duane. That same year he also starred alongside Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron in the action comedy film “Baywatch”, and these early years acting in movies have helped establish his career and also his net worth.

Today, Abdul-Mateen is very active in his chosen profession, and will appear in the movies “Boundaries” and “The Greatest Showman” with Hugh Jackman and Michelle Williams. He will also play the villain Black Manta in the film “Aquaman” on 2018, so both his reputation and his net worth seem sure to rise.

In terms of his personal life, Abdul-Mateen is believed to be still single, with not even any rumours of romantic associations, yet!
